Where can i rent a car with my debit visa card?

Marita Stadick: most car rental agency will put a freeze on the card somewhat in the neighbor of 200 to 500 dollars on the card do you have that amount of the money on the car then of course you cant use for anything else (ie going to a restaurant etc as the transaction will then be declined.) then when you return the card the reminder of whats left will eventually fall off any times from 3 day to a week later plus if you got any parking tickets while having the car then rental agency would then take it out of the debit so I dont think its good idea why not see if you could use public transit in stead? also if your debit card is part of your checking account and any checks come during the freze they will bounce then you will have to pay overdraft fees and the merchat where the check bounce and some merchants will charges 3 x the amount of purchase for bouning a check...Show more

I had this problem, bein! g a firm believer that getting credit cards was a slippery slope, and only had my debit card. when i started travelling a lot, i figured out that most major car rental places will NOT allow you to use this, being as to how they have to take a deposit, and there are lots of issues with taking it out of peoples savings, etc, so they just WONT do it. you have to go to smaller, less popular rental places that NEED the customers....Show more

Dexter Gold: yeah the first answer is correct, but i think they hold some amount of funds.. and it depends on the rental company. Call them and find out how much they hold while you rent the car.

Justin Casten: We use our debit card at Alamo frequently, Theri customer service is great too. At least here in Tulsa Oklahoma they only run the card for the amount of the rental as well
