Engineering & safety-wise, what are the best cars?

Myesha Zerbe: Volvo claims to be the safest car on the road, they were the first to come with seat belts, safety glass, impact absorbing bumpers, and many other safety features, and they always have a 5 star rating as far as safety. However, there are many other cars that have a 5 star rating. Check with consumer reports for the ratings.

Gregory Dilg: Honda nowadays. Nothing is really horrible crash wise...but crashes in the real world rarely emulate crash test dummy tests. So it's not truly valid.Really...safety means different things to different people. I can deal with a lower crash standing if the car has no trouble avoiding crashes (accurate steering, on demand power, and excellent braking). So...you know...safety is different for active drivers than it is for passive drivers. Do you stop when you see an object on the highway (like a ladder) or do you dodge it? Which is safer? If you stop you're going to cause a pileup......Show more
