Lorine Helwick: You're right, and some people (especially homeless) commit crimes just so they can get "3 hots and a cot".The worst parts about prison/jail are that you do what you're told and you're stuck being around people you don't like. Overall that's not that much different from the military.
Warren Kotter: You make a good point here. And there are people who are, in fact, "happier" on the inside. There's obviously bad things, too, but for someone people, the good (food, shelter, etc.) outweighs the bad.
Nikki Sypult: Being in prison wouldn't exactly be a "vacation" for a guy like me. I would hate having to live in a crowded setting like that.The free medical, dental, schooling, recreation, food, etc sounds like a good deal, until you realize that you get the medical care they approve for you (including dental and mental health care), you eat what they tell you to when they tell you to. You get recreation time when they say for as long as they say. ! You get visits from family and friends only when they approve. Your mail is monitored, you might have access to a TV, they decide what you watch and when ... and can pull the plug anytime they want to. No (or extremely limited) internet access available for you. You are never alone, you eat in a crowd, sleep in a cell with someone else (you do not get to choose your cell mate). You shower in a group. Your "yard time" is as part of a group.Worst thing about prison ... you can not trust any other person in the cell block, not even the guy you share cell with! 24/7 surrounded by felons, some of whom would cut your throat just to watch you bleed,Sure as heck not a scene I want to check out!...Show more

Melina Minneweather: I've not been in prison but have been in jail. Jail was bad enough and i think prison would be much worse because of the length of time you are there. You do get all th! e basics but not much else.You can end up sharing a cell with peopel yo! u don't get on with and you have no say in what you can do and when you can do it. Other people are running your life. Little things like going online, talking to your family and friends, having a beer don't happen any more. If you get a visit it's behind glass and you can get searched anytime a guard feels like it. It's not meant to be a holiday and it isn't. Been in jail twice now and don't want to go back....Show more
